One of life’s beauty hacks^^

Also one of life’s hardest ideas to accept.

To me, this quote is so helpful to remember. We all know by now that we live in a society full of advertisement overload. It can be pretty effortless to get sucked into the unrealistic (and just plain ridiculousness) perception that a women’s value comes from being pretty, flawless and chic.

But what if we told our daughters (and sons) they don’t need to be validated on the outside to feel good on the inside.

What if we told them they didn’t need the approval of a boy (or girl) to feel like they matter.

What if we told them that true beauty comes from how you treat others, how you love yourself, how you love God and how you contribute to society.

We all have worked hard to overcome obstacles to get where we are today. It’s a shame that after everything, we are too often measured only by great eyebrows, shiny hair, stylish clothes, long lashes, contoured faces, white teeth, skinny legs (and anything else you might find in a teen magazine).

We all deserve to be acknowledged for the beauty of our intelligence, kindness, strength, athleticism, charity, humor, integrity, love, faith, spirituality, creativity, drive…and the list could go on forever.

I don’t think we will ever change the way advertising magnifies beauty, but maybe we can be examples to other women, and men, that there is much more to living life than trying to be pretty.

So next time you give out a compliment, consider sharing a character quality you admire about them instead of about their looks. You’ll get brownie points for sure.

  1. Your thoughts remind of me of this quote is attributed to Audrey Hepburn: True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives and the passion that she shows. And the beauty of a woman with passing years only grows.
    For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anybody.
    For lovely lips, speak words of kindness. For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day.
    For poise, walk with the knowledge that you’ll never walk alone. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.
    The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to the heart, the place where love resides.
